Replace Your Play/Pause, Previous, and Next Buttons With These Beauties

Posted by Jody Mitoma on February 6, 2008

TheAppleTree (previously known as whitneystcharles) of iPodTouchFans recently released a theme she calls iTunes Music Skin: CommercialPlastic.

Here is what she had to say about the theme itself.

I was just kinda messing around with this today to see what I could whip up for the music player. I really like this skin overall… It kind of has a WMP-y look to it. It was difficult to get it working correctly – I found that I had to use play and pause buttons that were the same sizes as the originals, due to the fact that both the movie player and the music player pull their images from the same location. The offsets for each of these is different, however, being that you view video in landscape and music in profile. Ultimately I decided the quickest fix for this would be to include the button image in the Ipod Bar… which turned out being handier anyway, because you don’t have to overwrite the defaults every time you want to change the color of your buttons.

I uploaded the backup files if you don’t like the simple white plastic buttons that I created. I also fixed the problem with the progress bar being an ugly, white transparent color.

This is what it should look like in your video screen:

More color varieties, and instructions on how to install, after the break!

Dev Team Finally Releases Proper Firmware 1.1.3 Jailbreak Method

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 27, 2008

jailbroken 113

EDIT (01-26-08, 5:25am by Eric March): The link posted below pointed to an incomplete version of the jailbreak due to some errors jfb392 made in the archive. The link has been updated to the proper working link. If you have already downloaded, please re-download the file and replace your old one with this.

jfb392 made a thread on informing us that the Dev Team has in fact released their way of jailbreaking 1.1.3, very early this morning! (3:00AM, GMT -05:00).

Here is what he posted.

Download and extract this to any folder on your computer.
Run jailbreak.bat and everything should work on it’s own.
When the download of the firmware stops at 100%, don’t worry and don’t close the window, just be patient.

This requires you to be on Wi-Fi on 1.1.2 with BSD Subsystem 1.5 or greater, OpenSSH, and plugged into some kind of power source, like the Dev Team recommends in the README.
Make sure you have lots of free space on your iPod too, you’ll need it.
Thanks to the Dev Team for this method.

To get the January update for free, add to your sources in Installer, then navigate to The iPhone 1.1.3 Apps. in categories and install “The iPhone 1.1.3 Apps”.

Please report any problems in this thread.

JUST MINUTES AWAY from H3X’s 1.1.3 Jailbreak without computer!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 26, 2008

Here’s the latest update on H3X‘s jailbreak guide – using no computer whatsoever!

It’s being tested right now!

Will be released in a matter of minutes!

This was posted at 1:07am (GMT -05:00)

Stay tuned for Eric’s post in regards to all of this! 🙂

Dissheartening Update at 2:55AM (GMT -05:00):

xxDriveNxx, of the community boards, has a little update for us in regards to this jailbreak release through

Alright, as of 1:45 AM here this morning, here is where I sit.
H3X told me an hour ago that he’d be back in 15 minutes, and never came back on.
He was planning on releasing the link to the repo tonight without letting me test, which we ended up not doing, so that I could give it a thorough test.

The problem standing right now is that installer doesn’t like the large download. It seems to lose it’s connection with the host at a variable time during the download.
This may be due to the fact that our host is currently in between transferring the site to a dedicated IP, could be my connection, or the way installer handles things.

From where I sit, there is nothing I can do until H3X comes back tomorrow.
I still have faith in that he will make this happen, don’t get too disheartened. But for the meantime, catch some sleep already guys. I hate to be the one to bring the hopefully short delay, as it is H3X’s project, but I wanted to at least leave you all with all of the information I had.

That really sucks, man. But thanks for your contribution none-the-less, xxDriveNxx. You’ve been really helpful.

Complete iPod Touch/iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Guide – NO COMPUTER REQUIRED – Coming Tonight!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 25, 2008

jailbroken 113H3X, a great member of the community boards has informed us that he is currently working on a way to jailbreak the iPod Touch / iPhone 1.1.3 firmware – without the use of a computer!

Here is what he had to say:

All that wll be required is a jailbroken ipod on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 with installer.

I’m making this by myself. Should be up tonight.

It will take about 20-30 minutes to download the image, though.

Discuss. Should work on iPod Touches and iPhones.

Looking foward to it H3X!

My God, it’s amazing how quick some of you are with all of this.

iPhone /iPod Touch 1.1.3 Jailbreak RELEASED!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 24, 2008

jailbroken 113

Edit (11:45 GMT-05:00):

HUGE News, everyone.

It is finally possible to JAILBREAK Firmware 1.1.3!

Here is the full post found on

Well, the iPhone Dev Team has done it again. A working jailbreak for 1.1.3 is finally here.

As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first!

Let’s continue

This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin.

Right now there’s only a Windows iBrickr-based version of the image creator but I’m hard at work on a Mac version, so expect it soon.

Update – unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked and work properly after the update, according to scattered reports.

Here’s how you do it:
– Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with installed.
– Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
– Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
– iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
– iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
– iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
– When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
– When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

[FIRMWARE] 1.1.3 Jailbroken!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 19, 2008

jailbroken 1.1.3 iphoneWell, it hasn’t even been a week since Apple made the 1.1.3 firmware available to iPod Touch/iPhone users, and already, the iphone dev team and elite team have figured out a way to jailbreak 1.1.3!

There is a video available on YouTube that shows the jailbroken 1.1.3 in action, with on the summerboard, along-side the ability to wiggle and move icons around, proving that it is in fact on firmware 1.1.3!

Check out the video for yourself:

It is being said that they do not plan on releasing how to do this just yet. They are in fact waiting until February’s SDK release until they share exactly how they’ve come across doing this.

Also, here is the blog of one of the official dev teams working on the jailbreak.

Well done guys! Can’t wait to get a hold of this myself!

It has been discovered, that the dev teams may not actually be waiting for the SDK to be released, but are in fact actually trying to figure out ways to make the jailbreaking process a little easier for the average Joe.

Here is a quote from the official dev’s blog itself. “Details will follow when the procedure will be trimmed down. At the moment is not something anyone can do.”
