Jailbreak EASIER With Updated AppSnapp!

Posted by Justin Morley on February 3, 2008

If you are one who does a lot of tooling around and constantly finding yourself restoring to 1.1.1 and starting fresh, there are some new updates to which will be of interest:-Installs the latest version of Installer (3.0)
-Community Sources are now preinstalled
-Automatically OktoPreps (prepares for 1.1.2)
-More improvements listed here

This cuts out a few steps and sure to save a bit of time. The new processing for restoring from and back to 1.1.3 would be:

1. Restore to 1.1.1 in iTunes (shift+click Restore)
2. Jailbreak (visit and click Install)
3. Update to 1.1.2 in iTunes (shift+click Update)
4. Jailbreak 1.1.2
5. Install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH
5. Run Official 1.1.3 Upgrader from Install

Finally, jailbreakme updates! Now, we are just waiting for a jailbreak from them, too! (May or may not happen?)

iJailBreakMobile 1.0 Released!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 29, 2008

ijailbreakThis is simply amazing…

13 year old’s Arix and Ben have programmed a mobile 1.1.3 jailbreak method with their own knowledge.

Here is what they’ve posted on their website on January the 28th (yesterday):

AriX and I are VERY pleased to announce the immediate availability of iJailBreakMobile 1.0, a new branch of the wildly-successful iJailBreak utility.

iJailBreakMobile allows iPod Touches and iPhones to be automatically upgraded to, and jailbreak on 1.1.3 through

The great thing about iJailBreakMobile is that it does not require the use of a computer, so regardless of what operating system of architecture your computer may be running on, iJailBreakMobile will work just fine. As such, this fixes the File Not Found error and PowerPC compatibility issues.

You must start on a jailbroken installation of 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. To downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1, please visit To downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1, please visit iPod Touch owners need only follow page 1 and then visit to jailbreak. iPhone owners should do the first and second pages (which includes jailbreaking). At this point, your device is ready to use iJailBreak.

1.1.3 Jailbreak Problems and Solutions Roundup

Posted by Eric March on January 28, 2008

I still wouldn’t buy a Zune. You’re probably sick to death of seeing articles on jailbreaking 1.1.3 — especally if, like me, you’ve spent a solid day trying to get the official Dev Team release to work, most of which contained varying quantities of fail. Now that I have finally and mercifully seen the back of that process, I get to blog about it. I know, you envy me.

My original intent, post-jailbreak, was to write an article linking to all of the currently accepted Jailbreak methods and to threads containing solutions to the (many) problems people have encountered with them. A daunting task to be sure, so it came as a pleasant surprise when I checked the forums this morning and found that iPod Touch Fans member kappatango has already done all the heavy lifting by providing a fairly exhaustive list of such links and other details that cover just about any problem and its attendant solution you might encounter with the 1.1.3 jailbreak process. Read on for more.

Repo To Jailbreak 1.1.3 And The App Pack At Once

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 27, 2008

    jailbroken 113

There seems to be a bit of an issue occuring with this guide. Please follow at your own risk.

ipodtouchmaster, Chris Stroud, and ipodtouchhacker have made a repo making it possible to jailbreak firmware 1.1.3 and install the ‘App Pack’ all with one easy step. Have a look at the instructions posted by Chris Stroud himself, on the ipodtouchfans forums!

Thanks to the efforts of ipodtouchmaster, Chris Stroud, and ipodtouchhacker. We have released a new automatic jailbreak that still requires no computer. Our new version is a spawn of the Dev Team Jailbreak, but it installs the iPhone apps ( The January Software Update) during the install. This should really help simplify things! if u have questions or comments, post them. This Jailbreak may take up to an hour to install!

    Our Repo for this is:

We are currently making a video right now, either check back here, or check ipodtouchmaster’s youtube page in an hour or two.
this may or may not work on the iPhone, but we don’t see why it wouldn’t. Thanks and good luck!

    Jailbroken 1.1.2 device

    Latest Version of installer

BSD Subsystem 1.5 or greater (2.0 is current)

    Turn Autolock to “never”

Attatch your device to a power source (or make sure it has full battery)

    – The iPod Elite Team

Disclaimer- if you already have a Jailbroken 1.1.3 and want the 1.1.3 Apps, go to the same repo (you may need to refresh your sources) and install the 1.1.3 iPhone Apps Package, then install the Mail Fix. we are ging to try to merge these in to one file for your conveinience

Disclaimer Discaimer- We have received several requests for paypal information. our current paypal address is:

Currently, we are seriously killing Apple’s bandwidth, that is why it is soo slow.

Thanks a lot you three. This’ll be of much assistance to many, I am sure.

Dev Team Finally Releases Proper Firmware 1.1.3 Jailbreak Method

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 27, 2008

    jailbroken 113

EDIT (01-26-08, 5:25am by Eric March): The link posted below pointed to an incomplete version of the jailbreak due to some errors jfb392 made in the archive. The link has been updated to the proper working link. If you have already downloaded, please re-download the file and replace your old one with this.

jfb392 made a thread on informing us that the Dev Team has in fact released their way of jailbreaking 1.1.3, very early this morning! (3:00AM, GMT -05:00).

    Here is what he posted.

Download and extract this to any folder on your computer.
Run jailbreak.bat and everything should work on it’s own.
When the download of the firmware stops at 100%, don’t worry and don’t close the window, just be patient.

This requires you to be on Wi-Fi on 1.1.2 with BSD Subsystem 1.5 or greater, OpenSSH, and plugged into some kind of power source, like the Dev Team recommends in the README.
Make sure you have lots of free space on your iPod too, you’ll need it.
Thanks to the Dev Team for this method.

To get the January update for free, add to your sources in Installer, then navigate to The iPhone 1.1.3 Apps. in categories and install “The iPhone 1.1.3 Apps”.

Please report any problems in this thread.

    H3X’s Computerless 1.1.3 Jailbreak Released!

Posted by Eric March on January 26, 2008

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

NOTE: This method is currently down while H3X fixes some installer issues with the package. This note will be removed when he finally has it up and working 100%.

After much anticipation and a 70+ page thread full of “are we there yet?”, ipodtouchfans member H3X has released his no-computer-required, on-board Jailbreak method for Firmware 1.1.3. The new method is still based off of the”old” iBrickr method, but since it is all done on-board through Installer, you don’t need to be around a computer to do it, and it is alleged to be much faster as a result. (Download time notwithstanding.) Instructions are as follows:

Instructions for installing 1.1.3 jailbreak/firmware without a computer

Requires Jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPod Touch or iPhone, with installer installed

Make sure you set Auto-Lock in settings to “Never” before you begin!

    1. Add the source “” (without the quotes) to your installer application if you have not already.
    2. Scroll down to the “Jailbreak” folder, and install “Jailbroken 1.1.3 image”, or another image. This will take a while to download and install.
    3. When it is done, scroll down to “System”, then install 1.1.3 soft upgrade this should take 5-10 minutes to complete.
    4. Now, your iPod/iPhone should restart. When it boots up, it should be in firmware 1.1.3.
    5. Go into installer and it might ask for an upgrade. Hit “OK”.
    6. Unlock your iPod/iPhone, and go back into installer. Uninstall everything except “Installer” and “OpenSSH”.
    7. Click “Update” at the bottom, the “Update all” in the top right.
    8. Now your sources should refresh. Go into “System” and install “1.1.3 soft upgrade cleaner”.
    9. If you can find it, install “1.1.3 OpenSSH fix”. If you can not find it, don’t worry

Congratulations, you now have a fully jail broken iPod Touch/iPhone running the 1.1.3 firmware!(Or another one)

Credits to the iPhone/iPod Touch dev team, Ste, xxDriveNxx, and H3X.

Make sure to check out and

This Jailbreak does not include the new apps and features, just the means to jailbreak, so whatever method you’ve found that you’re most comfortable with for outfitting your jailbird with the new toys and wiggly Springboard will still have to be employed. Nevertheless, for those who have been looking for a jailbreak method that you can do wherever there’s WiFi, here’s your solution. Until an official Dev team jailbreak is released, this and the iBrickr method are the only two available, so if you’re really hot for the latest and greatest, load up Installer and get to it!

JUST MINUTES AWAY from H3X’s 1.1.3 Jailbreak without computer!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 26, 2008

Here’s the latest update on H3X‘s jailbreak guide – using no computer whatsoever!

    It’s being tested right now!

Will be released in a matter of minutes!

This was posted at 1:07am (GMT -05:00)

Stay tuned for Eric’s post in regards to all of this! 🙂

Dissheartening Update at 2:55AM (GMT -05:00):

xxDriveNxx, of the community boards, has a little update for us in regards to this jailbreak release through

Alright, as of 1:45 AM here this morning, here is where I sit.
H3X told me an hour ago that he’d be back in 15 minutes, and never came back on.
He was planning on releasing the link to the repo tonight without letting me test, which we ended up not doing, so that I could give it a thorough test.

The problem standing right now is that installer doesn’t like the large download. It seems to lose it’s connection with the host at a variable time during the download.
This may be due to the fact that our host is currently in between transferring the site to a dedicated IP, could be my connection, or the way installer handles things.

From where I sit, there is nothing I can do until H3X comes back tomorrow.
I still have faith in that he will make this happen, don’t get too disheartened. But for the meantime, catch some sleep already guys. I hate to be the one to bring the hopefully short delay, as it is H3X’s project, but I wanted to at least leave you all with all of the information I had.

That really sucks, man. But thanks for your contribution none-the-less, xxDriveNxx. You’ve been really helpful.

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 25, 2008

jailbroken 113H3X, a great member of the community boards has informed us that he is currently working on a way to jailbreak the iPod Touch / iPhone 1.1.3 firmware – without the use of a computer!

Here is what he had to say:

All that wll be required is a jailbroken ipod on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 with installer.

I’m making this by myself. Should be up tonight.

It will take about 20-30 minutes to download the image, though.

Discuss. Should work on iPod Touches and iPhones.

    Looking foward to it H3X!

Furthermore on Nate’s Discouraged iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Release / When To Expect Firmware 1.1.3 iPod Touch Jailbreak Method

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 25, 2008

iphoneplanetbeing, a member of the forums, and a part of the actual development of an upcoming iPod Touch firmware 1.1.3 jailbreak, had a little something to say earlier today.

Here is his post found on ipodtouchfans:

I’m going to speak about this, because I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding about what happened.

Initially Nate wasn’t part of our group. The issue was that Nate leaked the fact that we actually had 1.1.3 before Apple released it, and demonstrated it in a GearLive video. This action, naturally, jeopardizes our source. This was accidental by him, though, as he did not know we were trying to keep it a secret.

After the merged group (us) managed to jailbreak 1.1.3, Nate wanted in to help out. Given that the first leak was unintentional, most of us were happy to let him back in, and we told him how we were able to achieve the jailbreak.

iPod Touch 1.1.3 Jailbreak Thread Roundup

Posted by Eric March on January 25, 2008

jailbroken 1.1.3 iphoneThere is no doubt that the top story right now is the 1.1.3 Jailbreak for the iPhone. It has also been revealed that this jailbreak process also works for the iPod Touch — as long as you don’t mind giving it a split personality with the iPhone’s firmware and applications. Now that we’ve answered the big question, though, the little ones now surfacing en masse: Will my all of my apps still work? Do I still have access to emulator ROMs? What about the 300 meg app limit? Is it still there and can we bypass it like the good ol’ days? Fortunately, the masses have been fervently trying everything out, answering these questions and even providing tutorials for you. Today, I would like to gather the most pertinent and useful of these threads together so that those of you who have not been intrepid enough to do the deed can now get as much information as you need in one place to feel a little more comfortable performing the upgrade. Hit the read link below for the whole scoop.

UPDATES on iPhone 1.1.3 Firmware Jailbreak Release –> DOES WORK WITH IPOD TOUCH!!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 24, 2008

jailbroken 113Big news about the iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak, everyone! Looks like it does work for the iPod Touch after all!!

According to tens of members of the forums, and many other forums found Internet-wide, it is apparently possible to jailbreak your iPod Touch’s 1.1.3 Firmware using the iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak guide!

I can now confirm this myself, as I’ve upgraded to 1.1.3 Firmware and Jailbroke it successfully. 🙂

Apparently everything works perfectly, except you will get a “pop-up” about something regarding the iPhone, which you may simply disregard and move on. This means nothing to iPod Touch owners.

When iPod Touch users use the iPhone jailbreak guide that was leaked earlier, they will have “Phone” and “SMS” icons on their spring board. The reason for this is because the iPhone jailbreak guide uses one of the iPhone’s main files, so, when iPod Touch users download this file, it’s going into their iPod Touch’s operating system, causing the new features – which by the way, are obviously not usable, as the iPod Touch obviously does not have Edge technology.

iPhone /iPod Touch 1.1.3 Jailbreak RELEASED!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 24, 2008

    jailbroken 113

    Edit (11:45 GMT-05:00):

    HUGE News, everyone.

It is finally possible to JAILBREAK Firmware 1.1.3!

Here is the full post found on

Well, the iPhone Dev Team has done it again. A working jailbreak for 1.1.3 is finally here.

As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so. You may have to restore your phone using iTunes and start again if it fails. Make sure to back up first!

    Let’s continue

This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin.

Right now there’s only a Windows iBrickr-based version of the image creator but I’m hard at work on a Mac version, so expect it soon.

Update – unlocked phones appear to remain unlocked and work properly after the update, according to scattered reports.

    Here’s how you do it:
    – Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with installed.
    – Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
    – Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
    – iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
    – iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
    – iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
    – When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
    – When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Jailbreak of 1.1.3 Firmware Said To Be Released As Early As Tonight!

Posted by Jody Mitoma on January 23, 2008

    iphoneBig news everyone.

According to iPhone Atlas , one of the 1.1.3 Jailbreak methods may be getting released Internet-wide as early as tonight.

    Read the story below:

We’ve received word that the a software-based jailbreak method for iPhone software/firmware 1.1.3 (enabling the installation of unofficial third-party applications) could be released as early as tonight or tomorrow. We previously reported on the existence of a hardware-based method and two software-based methods, one more straightforward than the other.

iPhone Atlas has now learned that one closely guarded, software-based jailbreak method will be reserved for release after Apple ships the official iPhone SDK, which the company is due to discuss (but not necessarily ship) sometime in February. The other method will be released much sooner. Both methods are described as “tedious,” but not significantly more so than the iPhone 1.1.2 jailbreak. Like previous methods, the 1.1.3 jailbreak will consist of a series of scripts and require some level of user interaction.
