My Open Letter To The SummerBoard Developers
Posted by Justin Morley on January 31, 2008
Dear SummerBoard Developers,
SummerBoard just may be the number one reason an iPod Touch user jailbreaks their iPod. They are willing to use illegal measures to be able to customize their iPod any way they like. You and Customize run the jailbreak scene; customize has updated so you can run it on 1.1.3, so I am here, asking you, please hurry your ass’s up. I miss my background, my customized icons. I miss all the abilities you have given me, then taken away (damn you, 1.1.3!). So, do whatever you need to do to develop a patch, drink far too many coffee’s, Red Bulls, what have you; but PLEASE, fix it! I speak for thousands when I say this – BRING SUMMERBOARD BACK!
Love,
Your faithful users
P.S. – It’s great to be back.

I’ll second that emotion.
Incidentally, jailbreaking isn’t illegal by any means — just so ya know. Stevie just doesn’t like it because you’re wresting his precious control away from him. It will also void your warranty, but that’s nothing that can’t be fixed by a restore. 🙂
Oh, and welcome back!

Once the 1.1.3 Jailbreak is released it will work. There is plenty of time before that. Calm down. What you are using right now is a soft upgraded version of 1.1.2, don’t be fooled by the upgrade to make you think you are on 1.1.3. Read up more on all of the releases of the soft upgrades you have been using. Not everything will be compatible with the soft upgrade. That was your choice to download it and use it. The 1.1.3 jailbreak will be released in late February after the SDK release according to the Dev Team. Hope this clears it up.

Dustin, I regret to inform you, but you are completely wrong.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the way we decided to jailbreak firmware 1.1.3…
The reason summerboard and customize aren’t working correctly with 1.1.3 is because this firmware version edited a lot of the directories and files available to us through SSH/FTP. The main reason these two apps aren’t working, is because it looks to me Apple changed the ways that icons/backgrounds/ect are implemented into the system.
PS. Great to have you back Justin.

The 1.1.3 jailbreak has already been released — look further down in the blog, there’s half a dozen posts in a row about it. 😉 The dev team is holding one jailbreak method for use when 1.1.4 is released — as they are assuming Apple won’t patch it from 1.1.3 if they don’t know about it.

No, 1.1.3 jailbreak has not been released. What you are using is a 1.1.2 soft upgrade. The dev team has stated this several times. the soft upgrade overwrites current files in 1.1.2 and makes your iPod and iTunes think you are running on 1.1.3. That is a direct fact from SkylarEC. If you do not believe me then take it up with him.
