So, as most of you iPod Touch owners
probably already know, Apple has released a new firmware update(1.1.3) a couple days back. Along side the new update, they’ve also released the 5 apps that have been available on the iPhone since, well,
forever!
.
Good news, right?…Well, it wasn’t so good when Apple announced that current iPod Touch users would have to PAY $20 to get these 5 new applications. In fact, there has already been an online petition made about this situation, which has received just under 5000 (exact figure: 4988) as of right now. That means that there are 5000+ iPod Touch users (that KNOW about this online petition), whom are excruciatingly upset about Apple’s decision to make us pay for something that has already been released for free on previous hardware (the iPhone).
.
Not only that, but newly released iPod Touch’s are coming with these 5 apps for FREE!
I suggest all of you iPod Touch owners to sign the petition found
here, and let Apple know that you are also upset about this increadibly dumb idea.
.
Also, if you’ve got a moment to spare, feel free to send Apple some feedback in regards to this entire situation. You can do so by
clicking here and filling in the form and hitting “Send Feedback”.…
.
Now, I’m not sure if Apple is considering giving these 5 apps to current iPod Touch owners for free, but it is said that the button needed to purchase the 5 new apps for your iPod Touch has been removed from iTunes. Check this out for yourself. (If you are too lazy to check for yourself, have a look at these two threads:
an apple.com thread, and
an ipodtouchfans.com thread) It is possible that Apple is taking all of our complaints into consideration, and MAY be willing to make these 5 apps available to current iPod Touch owners for free! We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Don’t have high hopes about this though! I still suggest that you
sign the online petition, and
send Apple some disheartening feedback!
.
Updates:
It looks like only users with firmware version 1.1.3 can see the “upgrade” link in iTunes. This is what caused confusion. You need to be running firmware 1.1.3 to run the 5 new apps, not 1.1.2 or 1.1.1 – which explains why Apple removed the link to those still running earlier versions of the software. Looks like you non-jailbreakers won’t be getting these apps for free anytime soon…

Also, here’s what TUAW.com had to say about all of this: http://www.tuaw.com…ipod-touch-owners-rally…
Digg users are also showing their hatrid for Apple right now. If you are a Digg users, please take a minute to digg this story up.
Thanks for taking the time to hear me rant.
